These 2 skills will help to scan exploration sites quickly.
Astrometric Rangefinding = 10% increase to scan probe strength per level.
Astrometric Pinpointing = Reduces maximum scan deviation by 10% per level.
Scanning Rigs will help a lot. There are 3 different sizes for various ship class - Small, Medium and Large. Each rig has 2 versions available.
'Gravity Capacitor Upgrade' = ship modification designed to increase a ship's scan probe strength.
Tech 1 rig = Scan Strength Bonus 10 %
Tech 2 rig = Scan Strength Bonus 15 %
Hardwiring Implants can also help. There are 3 types that affect probe scan strength.
Hardwiring - Poteque Pharmaceuticals 'Prospector' PPH-0 = 2% stronger scanning strength with scan probes.
Hardwiring - Poteque Pharmaceuticals 'Prospector' PPH-1 = 6% stronger scanning strength with scan probes.
Hardwiring - Poteque Pharmaceuticals 'Prospector' PPH-2 = 10% stronger scanning strength with scan probes.
The type of ship and equipment used along with the level of exploration skills will also make a big difference. Always try to use the best equipment available, Sisters of Eve probe launcher and probes is the best.
Currently there is only 3 types of ships available with bonus for scanning. T1, T2 (Covert Ops) Frigates and T3 Cruisers. The Frigates lack the amount of slots available to fit up all exploration, defensive and offensive mods needed to complete most exploration sites. The T3 Cruisers are very expensive.
With high exploration skills, rigs fitted, implant installed and SoE equipment, just about any ship type can be used.
Cosmic Signature
Radar, Ladar, Gravimetric and Magnetometric sites will show type at 25% signal strength.
'Unknown' = Wormhole or Combat site will show type at 75% signal strength.
Cosmic Anomaly
Anomaly = Mini combat site will always show 100% signal strength.
Since there's a lot of players doing exploration, especially on the weekend, the trick is to be able to quickly scan and complete the various sites asap. One of the main things is location. Check the Starmap and look for areas with low population count, amount of jumps, npc kills, etc. There's still a few areas of high security with not many explorers.
